JNT Group Finalizes Purchase of Romanian Company and Presents Strategic Plans

Under a conditional agreement dated December 20, 2023, the purchase of a majority stake in the Romanian company DOMENIILE BOIERU SRL by JNT Group, one of the largest wine producers and distributors in Poland, has been finalized. JNT Group has begun building a strong wine business in the Romanian market and plans to expand the distribution of Romanian wines in international markets and in Poland.

JNT Group has been operating in international markets for many years. Exports are based on a model of direct distribution of its wines to retail chains through a locally employed company representative. In Romania, however, JNT Group has adopted a different operating model. Last year, the company opened a new company, Magna Wines SRL, and plans to build its position by investing in additional entities, creating new market segments, and developing those with the greatest potential. At the same time, the company aims to strengthen the position of Romanian wines globally.

Romania is one of our strategic growth areas in international markets. It’s a wine region with rich traditions, a strong one, with enormous growth potential, yet underappreciated in global markets. It’s time to change that,” says Jakub Nowak, President of the Management Board of JNT Group. “We invested in this market segment because we strongly believe in the potential of Transylvanian wines, due to their excellent quality-to-price ratio. We want to be their ambassador internationally.”

JNT Group began building awareness of Transylvanian wines in the Polish market. Over the past two years, the company has sold nearly one million bottles, is currently the largest importer of Romanian wines in Poland, and aims to build a strong position for these wines in many European countries. Currently, Romanian wine exports account for less than 5% of Poland’s total exports, and JNT Group plans to leverage this position to increase its market share. Transylvanian wines are already available in major Polish chains, and their sales are accompanied by an information campaign.

We are confident that we will build a strong position in this wine segment, and the actions we have taken will enable its development for many years to come. We will leverage our experience and the potential of the JNT Group to expand the availability of Transylvanian wines in other foreign markets,” explains Jakub Nowak. “Our long-term strategic plans for the Romanian market include, among other things, building on our Polish experience in the mulled wine category, in which we have maintained a leading position in the country for many years, as well as developing the aromatized wine category.”

The acquired company, DOMENIILE BOIERU SRL, includes 200 hectares of vineyards in Ciumbrud and Sebes in Transylvania, as well as a compact production facility with a capacity of 2.9 million liters. DOMENILE BOIERU SRL and Magna Wines, a subsidiary of the JNT Group, will now merge.

The acquisition of DOMENILE BOIERU SRL brings synergies across many levels of our operations. On the one hand, we plan to develop Transylvanian wines on the global market, and on the other, we will leverage our Polish experience in segments that are still emerging on the Romanian market, such as mulled wines and aromatized wines. We want to set trends and build new market segments,” concludes Jakub Nowak.
